First United Methodist Church is starting a Pioneer Club. Each week this Christ-centered program integrates spiritual and personal development to help children in kindergarten through 5th grade build healthy relationships with caring Christian adults, peers and, most importantly, Christ. And most of all, Pioneer Club is fun! Christ has placed on our hearts to spread his word and to be his hands and feet. We are called to “LOVE AND TO FEED THE CHILDREN." To not only feed a meal to fill their tummy but to feed the word. Christ is leading individuals and collectively the church to begin a midweek, community outreach, elementary children’s ministry.
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them. – Mark 10:13-16 (NIV)
If you feel Christ is calling you to serve but you are not sure how there are many opportunities with Pioneer. Whether your gifts are to serve in the kitchen, tutor homework, teach a bible lesson or participate in crafts, games or music, there is a place to serve. We are inviting loving adults to be “mentors” once a week to read to a child or have a child read to them. Sit and enjoy a meal, talk with the children and most important pray for them throughout the week. If you have an interest in volunteering, contact Shelley Hyre at 304-704-7039 or email@example.com.
Backpack Food Program
When school is in session we meet to pack backpacks on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. on the stage in the Family Life Center. We are collecting new backpacks and food items to include: granola bars, individual packets of oatmeal, canned ravioli, fruit cups, veggie cups, snack cracker packs and pudding cups. Please drop off your items in the bin marked “BACKPACK PROGRAM” by the Church office. Monetary, school supplies and food donations are always appreciated.
Operation Christmas Child
If you would like to make a monetary donation, OCC envelopes are available on the display in the lobby. Donations will be accepted through November 10, the day of our Big Packing Party after the 11 a.m. service. Please mark your calendar and plan to have free lunch and pack boxes in the Family Life Center. Volunteers are needed now to help prepare items that will go in the shoe boxes. To reach our goal of 1,200 gift filled shoeboxes, we need a team effort. Teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect. To participate or for more information, contact Bob Cowgill at 304-636-6367.

YouTube Live Stream
To view the live stream of FUMC 11 a.m. services, follow these instructions:
There is a simple way to always know when a YouTube video stream is coming live. YouTube allows you to be notified of any live video stream of your choice as soon as it goes live. For this to work, you have to open the live video stream for the Sunday Service that has already occurred. Indicate that you want to be notified of the live stream when it happens by clicking on the small bell like icon next to the “Subscribe” button below the video frame. About two minutes before the start of the next live stream from our Church, you will be sent an e-mail indicating that the church service will begin soon.
